FACILITIES

The Costa Brava – Girona Pyrenees is characterized by a long-standing sports tradition, rooted in its clubs, and by the wide variety of sports on offer. Football is undoubtedly the king of them all, with a stadium in virtually every municipality. Lately, cycling has seen a tremendous growth trend due to the large number of professionals from all over the world who live and train in Girona and its immediate surroundings.
The 200 kilometres of coastline bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean make the area exceptional for dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Palamós, L’Escala, Blanes, Roses, Empuriabrava and Sant Pere Pescador are the main venues for water sports.
The lake of Banyoles and its spectacular natural environment make it the perfect, highly specialized destination for rowing and triathlons.
Lloret de Mar stands out for the number of facilities and variety of sports it offers – football, team sports, cycling, swimming, triathlon, athletics, running – as well as its enormous adaptability to accommodate training for international groups and the capacity of its hotels for organizing large-scale events.
The Ciutat Esportiva in Blanes provides sports teams with one of the foremost examples of versatile, modern and large-capacity facilities for organizing events.

LANDSCAPE

When we say that almost a third of the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees are classified as a nature preserve, it will give you an idea of ​​what you will find here.
Eight natural parks, with spectacular contrasting landscapes, ranging from snow-capped peaks to the most charming Mediterranean beaches and coves, lie at a distance of just a few kilometres.
And in this short span, there is room for fishing villages and high mountain rural enclaves, Romanesque monasteries and churches. You’ll find the remains of ancient Iberian villages, Greco-Roman ruins, old Jewish quarters and medieval fortifications, and the Surrealist legacy of Salvador Dalí.

MILD CLIMATE

300 days of sunshine a year. The climate of the Costa Brava is generally sunny and mild, with pleasant temperatures. Winters are mild, and spring and autumn are perfect for training outdoors. Summers are hot, perfect for practicing water sports.
Because of the altitude, winters in the Girona Pyrenees are harsher, ideal for skiing and winter sports. Spring and autumn are mild, so that outdoor activities can resume. Summers tend to be a little cooler than on the coast.

In the Costa Brava – Girona Pyrenees we live and breathe sports. Sports clubs are the foundation of a system that allows practically everyone, from a very young age, to gain access to amateur sports, in some cases moving on to competition.
Girona’s clubs have produced individual talents in many disciplines: athletics, tennis, swimming, water sports, trail running, triathlon, cycling. And there have also been great collective successes in football, basketball, handball, artistic roller skating, and roller hockey.
All this is no coincidence. Our professionals have been formed using new methods of training and recovery to improve and complement traditional methods; technology has been applied to sports to create a comprehensive preparation for athletes.
